The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons as a child performer in America (which is known as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the child-prodigy category. This is a natural trait for a girl from Irish descent, who was nurtured in the beginning by gifted family members and parents. Maureen joined this wonderful refuge within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and had shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was 2nd in the household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing tough sporting games. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent of performing. It was evident by her receiving nearly every Feis award for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theater and singing.
